About Us
ImagingFirst is a mobile diagnostic imaging service offering ultrasound and assistance with radiographic interpretation, as well as training for vets, in and around the Perth area. This encompasses both 'emergency' ultrasounds within a few hours of patients being admitted to a clinic and more routine cases scheduled for ultrasound on an outpatient basis. We are pleased to be able to offer both abdominal and cardiac ultrasound, with associated procedures including sampling of abnormal organs / masses / lymph nodes, for example, draining of fluid and other ancillary diagnostic procedures to yield a diagnosis in each case.
For suitable cases, ImagingFirst can also offer ultrsaound to be performed at home, so long as the requesting vet is confident that no sedation is required and that the patient will not be stressed by the procedure [please note samples cannot be taken at home]. ImagingFirst also provides assistance to vets with interpretation of radiographs taken at the clinic, where possible. However, since some cases are more complicated, we may recommend that these are sent to a specialist radiologist.
The business ethos centres on delivering the best work possible and providing assistance in vet decision making to yield better clinical outcomes. We aim to maintain an excellent working relationship with GP vets and specialists alike, to serve most effectively as a first-line service for our veterinary patients.

ImagingFirst is owned and led by Dr Louise Barnett BVM BVS (Hons) PGCert (SAMS) MANZCVS (Small Animal Radiology).
Louise graduated from the University of Nottingham (2011) and had a varied start to her career, working in busy veterinary hospitals in both the UK and Australia - including working as an ICU vet in a specialist hospital in Sydney and various veterinary volunteer projects abroad. Louise's interest in diagnostic imaging, and in particular ultrasound, developed further with completion of a 12-month internship in 2015-2016, during which time she shadowed a European specialist in radiology and completed an externship with the cardiology team at the Royal Veterinary College. Louise obtained her postgraduate certificate in small animal medicine & surgery (PGCert SAMS) during this time. She went on to lead the first-opinion imaging and cardiology service at the South West London branch of a large group of clinics for two years. In 2018, she returned to Australia to be in the in-house ultrasonographer at a 24-hour hospital South of Perth and was awarded Membership to the ANZCVS in Small Animal Radiology in 2019.
Having spent much of her training undertaking externships and further studies in the field of cardiology, in 2011 she published a paper in the Journal of Small Animal Practice with two further studies pending publication. Clinical research continues to be an interest and she aims to produce further research using data obtained with the work of ImagingFirst.
Louise is passionate about improving clinical standards, vet welfare and patient care.
